Overview
A rhombus is a quadrilateral with all sides equal. Its diagonals are perpendicular and bisect each other. Its area is half the product of the diagonals, and its side length follows from half-diagonals using the Pythagorean theorem.
Formula
Area = (d₁ × d₂) ÷ 2, and side = ½√(d₁² + d₂²).
How it works
Enter both diagonals
The diagonals join opposite vertices.
Compute the area
Multiply the diagonals and divide by 2.
Halve each diagonal
Divide each diagonal by 2.
Compute the side
Apply Pythagoras to the two half-diagonals.
Worked examples
Example 1: diagonals 6 and 8
Area 24, side 5, perimeter 20.
Example 2: diagonals 10 and 24
Area 120, side 13, perimeter 52.
Frequently asked questions
Is a square a rhombus?
Yes. A square is a rhombus with right angles and equal diagonals.
Are the diagonals equal?
Not necessarily, but they are perpendicular and bisect each other.
How do I find the area from a side and angle?
Area = side² × sin(angle).
